Six young workers died in BC in 2013. They are among 128 work-related deaths reported by WorkSafeBC, of which 67 were the result of occupational disease, mainly owing to previous exposure to asbestos.

Construction lost 28 workers – the most of any BC industry.

These are preliminary statistics as of March 31, 2014, shared in this Day of Mourning fact sheet from WorkSafeBC’s Day of Mourning web page.

To honour these lost workers – and remember the importance of continuing our fight for safety – WorkSafeBC and partners invite us to the annual Day of Mourning ceremony on Monday, April 28, at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Jack Poole Plaza, at 10:30 a.m.

You can order Day of Mourning decals and posters for your workplace and community. Let’s remember together – and keep working to prevent similar tragedies from happening to others.
